Welcome to the South West Africa Wildlife
Preservation and Research Institute
(SWAWPRI). We are a Non Profit 501(c)(3)
Corporation and survive solely on your
donations and public support to pursue our
conservation and research efforts in one of the
last unspoiled territories on our planet. We are
located in "Greater Namaqualand" in the
Republic of Namibia in the "Succulent Karoo"
Region and have full authority to operate on
Kanabeam free of charge indefinitely. Our goal
is to insure the perpetuation and security of all
wildlife on the 96 square miles we operate on.
The South West Africa Wildlife Preservation and
Research Institute provides a safe and secure
sanctuary for wildlife. We accommodate the
education of the visiting public and select
students on the preservation of wildlife and its
sustainability in concert with sound
management practices and relevant research
through its institutes efforts. Additionally, the
public will be provided with suitable facilities for
recreation while wildlife programs proceed on a
daily basis and thus allow the public to
participate in eco-tourism.

BACKGROUND ON OUR ORGANIZATION
|
The organization had its inception in August
1993 as a Private Wildlife Reserve. At that time
the organization was known as The Kanabeam
Wildlife Reserve and was operated by its owner
and closed to the public. Hunting was
disallowed due to the flagrant poaching
throughout the general area. Entrance onto the
property was stringently controlled and this
practice continues. Since 1993, the owner
defrayed all expenses from his own financial
reserves. When these reserves were depleted,
the owner decided to form a non-profit
corporation to administer to the property and
continue to protect the property, promote the
protection and recovery of threatened species,
conserve all of the wildlife and flora, provide
employment for the local population, encourage
a series of "cottage industries" among the
population, conduct research, become a catalyst
for public awareness and education, provide
training for students from colleges and
universities and open the gates to the traveling
public to provide alternative and supplemental
funding to sustain the operations for
generations to come.
This corporation is entitled The South West
Africa Wildlife Preservation and Research
Institute and is incorporated as a non profit 501
(c) (3) corporation under the Laws of The State
of Delaware on October 28, 2002. The
corporation also sponsors spiritual programs
for the Nama people in the area and works
closely with other organizations in the area who
have like purposes. Moving as rapidly as
possible, the corporation has established an
Advisory Council with members in the United
States, The United Kingdom, South Africa,
Namibia and Portugal from various and diverse
disciplines who possess the requisite skills and
tenacity to prevail in success. The organization
is authorized to operate on Kanabeam
indefinitely without payment or compensation.
The organization has completed all of the initial
planning for the next four years, is completing
its administrative base and is actively pursuing
funding from charities, foundations, companies
and individuals. The organization also offers a
membership program and is involved in many
more aspects of preserving the wildlife and flora
in Africa for the world
